Frequently Asked Questions
Osteopaths treat a wide range of conditions related to your musculoskeletal system (your muscles and joints). This includes all manner of aches and pains which may have started yesterday or many years ago. It includes injuries related to accidents sustained at work, during recreation, pregnancy related pain or other concurrent condition.
We also have a wide range of expertise in general well-being.
All osteopaths are required to undertake a full bachelor and masters program over 5 years at university level. This course provides a high level knowledge of anatomy, physiology, rehabilitation, biomechanics and a wide range of other health science topics.
In addition, as a part of Allied Health osteopaths are required to have registration with Allied Health Practitioners Register Australia (AHPRA) and participate in ongoing training in order to maintain registration.
We will see children 7 years and older.Treating infants and young children requires specialised training which we do not have at this time, hence it is better left to an osteopath or other health professional with this training.
Sometimes, but it doesn’t have to. Cracking or HVLAT (High Velocity Low Amplitude Thrust) is generally a safe technique and may be beneficial in some circumstances. However these techniques are not heavily relied upon in our clinic and the benefits and risks will be explained to you prior to requesting your consent before proceeding if it is deemed safe to do so.
There should be plenty of parking either in the IGA carpark, Ford Street or Loch Street. You are welcome to park directly in front of the clinic if there is a spot available
You don’t really have to bring anything other than a means of payment, however here is a list of things that my be helpful:
- Your medicare referral if you have one, as well as your medicare card
- Private health card or concession card if you have one
- Any rehab equipment you may have borrowed
- A list of any medications or supplements being currently used
- Any recent scans you have relating to your consult can be useful but not essential
- Orthotic inserts or other straps, braces or aids that you may use
- Your bike, if you feel your riding may be related to your consult
- Any good books or other material you have that you may consider important to your health perception
No need to arrive early. We have spaced out the appointment times so that there should not be any overlap. However, being late could mean that your appointment will need to be shortened
Ideally you should wear easily removed outer clothing and well fitted underwear
You can definitely leave your clothes on if you choose to. We have medical gowns available if you would like to use one.
Sure, children are welcome in the clinic!
Due to COVID, it is not recommended to have more persons are in the clinic space than necessary. If you are dependent on a carer it is permitted to have them attend the consultation. If the patient is 16 years old or younger then they will require a parent or guardian to accompany them in the consultation and provide consent for their treatment.
Yes. There is a toilet and hand basin located adjacent to the treatment rooms of our clinic which you would have access to as a patient.
